City launches groundbreaking parks and open space master plan

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed significant developments in Midvale's transportation and park planning initiatives. The meeting included a presentation on the Transportation Master Plan, which is expected to be a lengthy discussion, alongside a concept plan for the Jordan Bluffs area.

A key highlight was the announcement of funding awarded for the creation of a first-of-its-kind Parks and Open Space Master Plan for Midvale. City representatives confirmed that they have selected MHTN as the consulting firm to assist in this project, which is being administered through the Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC). The plan aims to assess the current level of service for parks in the city and outline strategies for future improvements. City officials expressed enthusiasm about the project, emphasizing its potential to guide Midvale's development in public spaces.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the progress of a canal trail feasibility study conducted about a year and a half ago. Following a well-attended open house that garnered significant community interest, officials are now moving into Phase 1, which involves final design and potential construction of the trail. The initial phase will focus on a segment along the Jordan and Salt Lake Canal, specifically from 75100 South to 78100 South, adjacent to Mid Valley Elementary.

These initiatives reflect Midvale's commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure and expanding recreational opportunities for its residents, with city leaders encouraging community involvement throughout the planning processes.
