Council proposes $2 million to combat sexual exploitation

The proposal seeks a $2 million ongoing investment to enhance interventions for victims of exploitation and trafficking. This initiative aligns with ordinance 127,086, which was passed by the council in September and sponsored by Council Member Moore.

The ordinance introduced a new enforcement approach that prioritizes the well-being of victims, advocating for alternatives to traditional booking processes. Instead, it emphasizes diversion, referrals to social services, and safe house placements. The current proposal aims to ensure that these intentions are translated into actionable programmatic changes.

Key components of the proposal include the addition of five full-time equivalent (FTE) positions dedicated to victim advocacy. These roles are designed to provide essential support for CSE survivors and facilitate community-based resources for sex worker interventions.
