Ingleside declares October Fire Prevention Week to save lives

In a recent government meeting, the city of Ingleside, Texas, officially proclaimed October 6 through 12, 2024, as Fire Prevention Week. Mayor Pedro Oscar Domingue emphasized the city's commitment to the safety and security of its residents, highlighting the critical role of smoke alarms in preventing fire-related fatalities.

The proclamation aligns with the 2024 Fire Prevention Week Campaign, which focuses on the theme \"Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You.\" The mayor noted alarming statistics, revealing that a significant number of fire deaths in the U.S. occur in homes lacking functional smoke alarms. Specifically, three out of five fire deaths happen in residences without working smoke alarms, and over one-third of home fire fatalities are linked to homes without any smoke alarms.

To combat these issues, the proclamation encourages Ingleside residents to install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of their homes. The mayor urged residents to be vigilant, listen for smoke alarms, and respond promptly by evacuating to a designated meeting place.

Additionally, the proclamation stressed the importance of having a home fire escape plan, noting that those who practice such plans are more likely to survive a fire. The city also recognized the efforts of the Ingleside Volunteer Fire Department in educating the community about fire prevention and safety.
