Youth Empowerment Program Launches to Transform Lives

During a recent government meeting, Councilmember Fiddler highlighted a significant shift in educational recognition, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging post-secondary accomplishments beyond traditional college pathways. Fiddler noted that this change better reflects the diverse aspirations of students who may prefer vocational training or other skill development opportunities.

The meeting also introduced the Apprentice of Peace Youth Organization, a new partnership aimed at empowering local youth. Councilmember Fiddler expressed enthusiasm for the program, which originated in Denver and has now expanded to Brighton. The initiative focuses on wellness and personal development, offering a two-year program that helps young people explore various career pathways, including leadership, arts, wellness, and skilled trades.

Giancarra De Laura, a program coordinator for the Apprentice of Peace, explained that the organization aims to connect students with their talents while fostering family involvement. The program addresses critical topics such as mental health and personal growth, providing a supportive environment for youth to thrive.

Cammy Cox, a parent of a participant, shared her positive experience, noting that the program offers valuable opportunities that extend beyond typical school activities. She advocated for its expansion to public school students, highlighting its potential to enrich their educational experience.
