Art Space Alliance launches vibrant mural project downtown

The Art Space Alliance has secured a new contract to enhance downtown with mural projects, following the successful initiation of their mural program. A selection committee, which included members of the local government, has chosen two muralists from a pool of 34 applicants. The first mural will be installed on the Altitude 15 wall facing Washington, while the location for the second mural is still being finalized.

The committee expressed enthusiasm over the quality of submissions, noting that the increase in artist compensation this year—from $5,000 to approximately $6,800—has attracted a broader and more talented range of applicants. This funding adjustment is seen as a key factor in improving the caliber of the proposals received.

While the current season does not allow for additional murals, plans are in place to allocate further funding in the spring for more projects. The Art Space Alliance is eager to continue facilitating these artistic endeavors, which aim to beautify the community and support local artists. The selected mural by Rick Perry, known for his whimsical creature designs, is anticipated to be a highlight of the upcoming installations.
