City Council Approves Major Restoration Project After Wildfire

In a recent city council meeting, members approved the termination of a permit agreement with Chelan Public Utility District (PUD) concerning the home water property, streamlining future communications and operations. The motion, made by Council Member Huffaker and seconded by Council Member Atkins, passed unanimously without opposition.

The council also discussed a significant restoration project in the aftermath of a wildfire that occurred on July 4th, which affected several areas, including the Horse Lake properties. The restoration plan involves collaboration with multiple organizations, including the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), and local conservation groups. The first phase of the project is set to begin next week, focusing on seeding and herbicide application to control noxious weeds, with follow-up efforts planned for the following year.

Jennifer Hattersberger from the Land Trust was recognized for her leadership in coordinating the various stakeholders involved in the project. The city attorney also played a crucial role in finalizing the agreement, ensuring that the restoration efforts can proceed effectively. This initiative is seen as a vital step in rehabilitating the affected areas and enhancing local ecosystems.
