Drainage Crisis Sparks Urgent Action in Local Community

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed pressing drainage issues exacerbated by an influx of new mobile homes under the Restore Act. The lack of adequate parish drainage in certain areas has prompted the need for surveying right-of-ways to establish drainage ditches. Two specific locations, College Barn and Popcorn Lane, were identified as critical points requiring assessment.

Officials emphasized the importance of creating a safe distance for the proposed ditches to avoid complications with existing infrastructure. The discussions highlighted the necessity of connecting these ditches to larger bodies of water to ensure proper wastewater management. The potential for installing lift stations was also explored, which could alleviate some drainage concerns by allowing for the pumping of wastewater without the need for extensive ditching.

The meeting also addressed a significant complaint regarding drainage, which was resolved with a decision to initiate work orders for street sweeping rather than a full-scale drainage project. Additionally, updates were provided on the clean-out of various outfalls, including those on Biofouche, Oakley Road, and Georgette Street, which are crucial for improving drainage efficiency in the area.

A request for approval to clean out an outfall in the Corn Street subdivision was also discussed, with officials noting that this would require state involvement due to the nature of the obstruction. The meeting concluded with assurances that the necessary actions would be taken in coordination with state authorities to address these ongoing drainage challenges.
