Pure Academy set to transform lives with major expansion

In a recent government meeting, officials expressed strong support for the expansion of Pure Academy, a program dedicated to aiding at-risk youth in the community. The initiative aims to enhance the lives of young people by providing them with a structured environment that fosters academic success and athletic development.

Dominique, a representative at the meeting, highlighted the significant impact Pure Academy has had on local youth, emphasizing its focus on teaching resilience, discipline, and leadership skills. The program has garnered backing from both commissioners and the administration, reflecting a collective commitment to uplifting the community.

John Golan, the board chair of Pure Youth Athletic Alliance, shared insights into the program's history and its founder, Melvin Cole. Cole, who grew up in poverty in Memphis, has dedicated nearly a decade to transforming the lives of young men facing similar challenges. Through a residential boarding school model, Pure Academy provides continuous support to its students, allowing them to thrive academically and personally.

Golan noted the program's impressive outcomes, including a 100% graduation rate and successful placements of graduates in various fields, including military service and trucking. The current facility in Whitehaven is limited to 30 residential students, but the upcoming completion of a new campus on Chelsea Avenue will significantly increase capacity to 250 students.

The expansion is made possible through generous donations and public assistance, with the aim of reaching more youth in need. The meeting underscored the community's commitment to supporting initiatives that foster positive change and provide opportunities for young people to build brighter futures.
