Elderly tenants fight eviction amid lease renewal threats

During a recent government meeting, a poignant plea was made by three senior women, aged 87, 80, and 89, who expressed their struggles as victims facing housing insecurity. One of the women, who attended the meeting alone, revealed that her apartment manager had threatened to evict her if she continued to advocate for her rights regarding lease renewal. She urged the council for assistance, highlighting the vulnerability of elderly tenants in similar situations.

The meeting then transitioned to other agenda items, including a discussion led by Nathan Allen regarding an amendment proposed by Council Member Fuentes. Allen emphasized the enthusiasm among members of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for the proposed changes, which he believes will enhance the efficiency of ongoing projects. He expressed optimism about the progress and collaboration among council members to support this initiative.
