Community celebrates first responders at historic event

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several community initiatives and events, highlighting ongoing projects and upcoming celebrations.

One notable topic was the construction progress at a roundabout near Costco, which has been under development for approximately six months. Concerns were raised about the pace of the project, with officials expressing a desire for updates to ensure transparency and community awareness.

The meeting also featured reflections on the 50th anniversary of Medic 1, attended by former members and first responders. One of the original medics, Bill Pierpoint, captivated attendees with his dynamic storytelling about early emergency calls. Plans were made to invite Pierpoint to share his experiences in a future history talk, with efforts underway to create a PowerPoint presentation to accompany his stories.

Additionally, the chair reminded attendees of Heritage Day, scheduled for October 26th at the Thurston County Fairgrounds, which will feature various panels and discussions. The event will also honor Gary Alexander with a plaque for his contributions.

Lastly, updates were provided on the completion of rack panels related to local tribal history. Adjustments to visuals are being finalized before printing, with a grand opening planned for early next year to avoid conflicts with the holiday season.
