Community engagement sparks vision for Lacey's future

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the ongoing community outreach efforts related to the city's comprehensive plan. Currently in the visioning phase, the initiative aims to engage residents through various workshops and events to gather feedback on community needs and aspirations.

The outreach has included participation in local events such as the barbecue festival and Children's Day, where officials collected insights from attendees. Key themes emerging from these discussions include a strong desire for improved multimodal transportation options, including sidewalks, bike lanes, and crosswalks. Additionally, residents expressed interest in recreational facilities, particularly pools and splash pads, as well as affordable housing solutions.

The city has launched a survey to further solicit community input, which is accessible on the city’s website and available in multiple languages. This survey includes mapping exercises to allow residents to pinpoint specific areas for improvement, enhancing the feedback process.

Looking ahead, the city plans to continue its engagement efforts with upcoming events, including WinterFest on November 2nd, and aims to host an open house workshop in early 2025 to share findings and gather additional feedback.

Officials emphasized the importance of reducing barriers to participation, ensuring that all community voices are heard as the comprehensive plan develops. The next meeting is scheduled for October 23rd, where further updates on the outreach efforts will be provided.
