In a recent government meeting, officials discussed proposed changes to building permit fees across various cities in Cache County. The building department conducted a comparative analysis of permit fees in neighboring jurisdictions, revealing a range of costs based on home size and location.
For a standard-sized home, the current fee is approximately $3,000, which would increase to around $3,480 under the new fee schedule. Specific fees for different cities were outlined: Hyde Park would see a fee of $3,361, Logan City $3,677, Nibley $3,127, Brigham $2,930, and Ogden $4,493. As home sizes increase, fees would also rise, with larger homes costing significantly more—up to $6,032 in the proposed schedule for the largest homes in the area.
The proposed changes aim to simplify the fee structure by introducing brackets based on home value, making it easier for residents to calculate their permit costs. This new system is designed to enhance transparency and streamline the permitting process. Despite the fee increases, officials noted that the overall revenue from building permits is projected to rise by approximately 0.82 percent, indicating a balanced approach to funding while accommodating the needs of the community.
The meeting concluded with an invitation for questions, signaling an openness to public input on the proposed changes.
