City approves ambitious mixed-use development plan

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the Armistead District PUD Subdivision, a multi-phase mixed-use development proposed for 1740 Highway 96 West, also known as the Short Farm. The project aims to blend rural charm with modern amenities, featuring 837 residential units, including single-family homes, townhomes, multiplexes, and multifamily units, alongside 103,750 square feet of commercial space and a 75-room hotel.

The project received unanimous approval for nine modification of standards (MOS) requests, although the final resolution was passed with a 5-2 vote due to concerns over traffic standards. City staff recommended the approval of all MOSs, with specific conditions added to ensure compliance with city regulations. Notably, modifications related to sidewalk materials were discussed, with a shift from using \"ProAg\" terminology to \"stable, firm, and slip resistant\" to better reflect sidewalk requirements.

The development plan includes provisions for ADA accessibility, ensuring that all pedestrian pathways meet necessary standards. City officials emphasized the importance of maintaining accessibility throughout the project, with detailed plans laid out to ensure compliance.
