Building Services Launches Rapid Recovery Plan After Hurricane

In a recent government meeting, officials from Building Construction Services outlined their critical role in post-hurricane recovery, emphasizing their commitment to damage assessment and reconstruction support for affected residents. Following the hurricane, the department has conducted over 9,000 building inspections, identifying 6,000 structures with significant damage. However, officials acknowledged that many properties remain inaccessible due to ongoing flooding.

To facilitate recovery, the department has waived building permitting fees for storm-related repairs and is offering expedited permitting processes. Special attention will be given to properties in flood zones, with additional resources and guidance provided to homeowners navigating the recovery process.

To improve accessibility, remote permitting locations will be established, including a site at the Trobe, Lacucci Boys and Girls Club, to assist residents without requiring extensive travel across the county. Officials encouraged residents to utilize the resources available on the county's recovery webpage, which includes step-by-step guides and information on permit exemptions.

The department reiterated its dedication to helping residents rebuild and recover, ensuring that support is readily available as the community works towards reconstruction.
