Normandy High School celebrates record graduation rates

The Pleasant Valley School District held a significant meeting this evening, featuring presentations from student ambassadors and school leaders, including Normandy High School Principal Rachel Urban. The meeting commenced with a pledge of allegiance led by the student ambassadors, who were recognized for their contributions to the community under the guidance of their teachers.

Principal Urban presented the school improvement plan for Normandy High School, highlighting the school's recent achievement of increasing its state report card rating from 3.5 to 4 stars, the only school in the district to do so. Urban emphasized the importance of collaboration among staff and students during a recent consolidation, which has fostered a supportive learning environment. She reported a graduation rate of 92.4%, with the class of 2024 projected to reach 96.4%.

Urban identified areas for growth, including a slight dip in the school’s RPI (Report Card Performance Index) and challenges faced by English Language Learners (ELL) due to language barriers. She noted the implementation of new assessment tools and additional support classes to address these issues.

The meeting also recognized top-achieving students, celebrating their academic accomplishments and future aspirations. The board expressed pride in the school’s achievements and the community's support, particularly in helping families new to the area.
