Washington County's Ice Cream Trail has seen remarkable growth in its 2024 season, with participation soaring to 581 individuals, a significant increase from just 40 participants in its inaugural year. The initiative, launched in 2021 by the public relations and marketing department alongside the business development department, aims to promote local ice cream shops and foster community engagement.

Danielle Weaver, the public relations and marketing director, presented the update during a recent government meeting, highlighting the trail's success and the positive feedback received from participants. This year, participants who completed the trail will receive a commemorative t-shirt, funded by approximately $55,100 in sponsorships from local businesses.

The Ice Cream Trail not only encourages community involvement but also boosts business for local ice cream shops. Feedback from shop owners indicates that the trail has increased customer traffic and sales. Nutter's Ice Cream Shop was recognized as the favorite among participants for the second consecutive year, with plans for a promotional event to celebrate this achievement.

Looking ahead, the team is eager to expand participation further, with discussions around enhanced marketing strategies, including social media promotions and potential outreach to local schools. The goal for next year is to reach 1,000 participants, and the team is open to suggestions for improvement.
