City celebrates groundbreaking North Creek Greenway trail project

During a recent city council meeting, officials celebrated the progress of the North Creek Greenway project, a long-term initiative aimed at creating a 14-mile trail connecting Eagan, Apple Valley, Lakeville, and Farmington. The project, which is expected to enhance community connectivity and promote outdoor activities, recently marked a milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Apple Valley. The trail will feature separate pathways away from busy roadways, providing a safer and more enjoyable experience for users.

Tom, a city representative, highlighted the trail's route, which includes significant landmarks such as Quarry Point Park and the Cobblestone Lake neighborhood. The project is designed to connect various local businesses and recreational areas, including the Minnesota Zoo and Splash Valley Water Park. The collaboration between Dakota County, the Chamber of Commerce, and local stakeholders was praised for their efforts in bringing this vision to fruition.

In addition to the trail updates, Police Chief Nick Francis provided community safety reminders, including details about the upcoming annual trunk-or-treat event scheduled for October 26 at Splash Valley Water Park. This event aims to foster community engagement and public safety awareness. Chief Francis also discussed the department's participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the sale of pink patches, with proceeds benefiting a local nonprofit supporting breast cancer survivors.

The council also addressed upcoming events, including the next informal city council meeting on November 12, and a closed session to discuss the potential sale of city-owned property. The meeting concluded with a reminder that city offices will be closed on November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.
