Lee County mobilizes disaster relief efforts for Western North Carolina

In a recent government meeting, officials from Lee County Government outlined their ongoing disaster relief efforts in Western North Carolina. Key departments, including emergency management and the sheriff's office, have deployed personnel to assist in recovery operations. Additional support has come from the fire marshal's office, health department, and social services, all of which have volunteered employees to aid in the relief efforts.

The county has also coordinated donations of both monetary and physical items, with contributions from various departments, including IT and tax services. Community support services are actively working with Lee County residents who have returned from the mountains during the emergency, helping to coordinate temporary services for those displaced.

The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners has established a resource page to further assist in these efforts. Discussions during the meeting highlighted the importance of encouraging volunteerism while ensuring that employees' incomes are protected. Officials noted that much of the relief assistance being provided is expected to be reimbursable through FEMA funds, with Emergency Management Director Matt Britt leading the coordination efforts.
