Celebrating Veterans with Honor and Gratitude

The recent government meeting in Deltona commenced with a heartfelt invocation by Pastor Fred Lowery, a former city commissioner and Volusia County council member, who emphasized gratitude for veterans and the freedoms they protect. His prayer acknowledged both those present and the sacrifices of those who did not return, highlighting the significance of the day as it approaches Thanksgiving.

Following the invocation, the American Legion Post 255 presented the colors, reinforcing the patriotic spirit of the gathering. The event featured a special guest, Specialist Gabriel Aviles, a local business owner and veteran with extensive military service, who expressed appreciation for his fellow service members and recognized his family’s military history.

A standout moment came when Aviles introduced his daughter, Melody, who delivered an inspiring rendition of the national anthem, showcasing her remarkable journey overcoming autism. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, celebrating her achievement.

The meeting also included a recognition of the various branches of military service, inviting attendees to stand as their respective hymns were played, fostering a sense of unity and pride among veterans and active-duty members alike.

Former Deltona City Commissioner Lauren King, a veteran Navy SEAL, served as the guest speaker. He expressed gratitude for community support of the Veterans Community Educational Partnership and extended birthday wishes to the Marines, further emphasizing the camaraderie and respect shared among those who have served. The meeting underscored the community's commitment to honoring veterans and fostering a supportive environment for their contributions.
