City Council Demands Parking Solutions for New Event Center

During a recent council meeting in Verona, significant discussions centered around the development of a new event center and the pressing issue of parking availability. Alder Posey expressed frustration over the ongoing challenges related to parking for the proposed facility, emphasizing that adequate parking is essential for the success of the event center. He recalled initial conversations that highlighted the need for sufficient parking, which he believes remains a straightforward requirement despite changes in the project’s scope from a hotel to residential property.

Alder Kaiser McHenry echoed Posey's sentiments, sharing her experience working at an event center and stressing that a lack of parking could be a deal breaker for the development. She urged the council to explore creative solutions for parking, including the possibility of underground or above-ground options, to accommodate the expected increase in visitors.

The meeting also addressed the development agreement with EPIC Systems Corporation regarding Tax Incremental District Number 11. City staff reported that they had incorporated feedback from previous discussions into a revised agreement, which was presented for approval. Alder Tarkalong moved to approve the agreement, with Alder Posey expressing appreciation for the collaborative efforts that led to the changes.
