In a vibrant display of community spirit and patriotism, the annual Veterans Day parade took place, culminating in a memorial service at Memorial Park dedicated to honoring veterans. Attendees were encouraged to gather at the park following the parade for a solemn service featuring the posting of colors by the VBA chapter 1041 color guard, a tradition upheld for many years.
The event highlighted the contributions of various groups, including the Stewart Corvette Club, known for their impressive lineup of classic vehicles, and the 16th Armored Division reenactment group, which showcased historical military artifacts and vehicles to educate the public about the sacrifices made by veterans. The reenactment group, based in Jupiter, Florida, aims to keep the legacy of service alive through demonstrations and living history events.
Lieutenant General Frank from the U.S. Marine Corps was announced as the guest speaker for the memorial service, which will also feature a gun salute and taps performed by BFW Post 10132. The grand marshal for this year’s parade was Ron Polzine, a Navy veteran, who was recognized for his service.
The event served as a reminder of the distinction between Veterans Day and Memorial Day, with the former celebrating all veterans, both living and deceased, while the latter honors those who lost their lives in service. Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11 at 11 AM, contrasting with Memorial Day's observance on the last Monday in May at 3 PM.
The parade not only celebrated the sacrifices of veterans but also fostered a sense of community, with local organizations like the Shriners contributing to the festive atmosphere, bringing joy to families and children in attendance.
