Town council approves emergency cleanup measures after Hurricane Helene

The Fort Myers Beach Town Council convened recently to address several key resolutions, including emergency cleanup efforts and the extension of professional services agreements.

The council unanimously ratified a resolution to contract with ICS Materials Inc. for emergency protective measures following the impacts of Hurricane Helene. Environmental staff clarified that the contract focuses on clearing roads and removing hazards from the beach, with ongoing efforts to manage sand debris from both Helene and Hurricane Milton. The council emphasized that while federally funded cleanup efforts cannot include commercial debris, they will accept sand from private properties to maintain cleanliness along the beach.

Additionally, the council approved a second amendment to an agreement with Access Infrastructure LLC, extending their professional services contract until September 30, 2025. This extension aims to ensure continued support for ongoing projects, with specific mention of staff member Sarah's involvement.

Lastly, the council discussed waiving a prohibition on membership for individuals serving on multiple boards or committees, a topic raised during a previous meeting. This resolution aims to clarify and potentially streamline participation in local governance.
