City launches ambitious plan to transform neighborhoods

In a recent government meeting, officials outlined the significant progress and future plans of the Community Development Agency (CDA), highlighting a substantial increase in funding and a commitment to economic justice. The CDA, which operates with a team of approximately 40 personnel, has seen its financial deployment grow dramatically, from $24 million in 2022 to nearly $50 million in 2023, with projections of $60 to $70 million for 2024.

The agency's structure includes a fiscal division responsible for managing funds, a compliance team ensuring adherence to regulations, and a construction and housing team overseeing nearly 100 projects that will provide over 2,500 housing units. A key focus of the meeting was the update of the CDA's consolidated plan to align with the mayor's Economic Justice Action Plan. This plan is rooted in community input, having gathered over 5,000 survey responses from residents. The top priority identified was neighborhood transformation, emphasizing investments in housing and addressing vacancy issues. The initiative aims to reverse decades of disinvestment in North Saint Louis, with a core belief that equity is essential for sustainable growth.
