City Council proclaims Small Business Saturday to boost local economy

The Fond du Lac City Council convened on November 13, 2024, with a quorum present, including Ms. Leering participating via phone. The meeting commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silent reflection.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the proclamation recognizing November 30, 2024, as Small Business Saturday. Council President Tiffany Brault invited local business advocate Amy Krupp to accept the proclamation, emphasizing the vital role small businesses play in the community.

The proclamation detailed that 76% of the 290 businesses in the downtown Fond du Lac partnership are small, locally owned enterprises, which are crucial to the local economy. It noted that these businesses not only contribute significantly to retail market activity but also recycle an average of 67 cents of every dollar spent back into the community. Furthermore, 81% of these businesses are managed solely by their owners, showcasing their independence and commitment.

Brault urged residents to support local businesses during the holiday shopping season and throughout the year, highlighting their unique contributions to the character and vibrancy of Fond du Lac. The council's recognition of Small Business Saturday aims to encourage community members to shop locally and appreciate the hard work of small business owners.
