Moraga unveils ambitious 2040 general plan for growth

The Moraga Town Council convened to present the long-awaited General Plan 2040, marking the culmination of four years of extensive community engagement and planning efforts. This state-mandated document outlines the town's growth strategies and policies, guiding development decisions from 2025 to 2040.

The General Plan is a comprehensive framework that addresses a wide range of topics, ensuring internal consistency among its policies. It is part of a broader initiative known as the Comprehensive Advanced Planning Initiative, which includes a state-required housing element. This element mandates Moraga to accommodate 1,118 housing units over the next eight years, with a focus on affordable housing for lower-income households.

The update to the General Plan is particularly significant as it replaces the existing plan adopted in 2002, which had become outdated.
