Community races promote health and unity this holiday season

During a recent government meeting, various department heads reported on their ongoing activities and initiatives, highlighting a busy November for local agencies.

Sheriff Kevin Glenn Denning noted an increase in jail activity, with the facility currently housing around 97 inmates. He mentioned that 15 inmates are scheduled to transition to treatment facilities, indicating a positive trend in managing inmate populations.

In the realm of community engagement, Chris Lee, the Conservation Director, shared details about recent and upcoming events. The successful Veterans Day Sunrise Run 5K was held in partnership with the local Marine Corps League, featuring a color guard and a presentation honoring the significance of Veterans Day. Looking ahead, Lee announced the Gobble Gobble 5K on November 23, with proceeds benefiting the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving meal program, and an Ugly Sweater 5K planned for December 28. Shannon Prado, the Emergency Management Coordinator, reported the completion of a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) academy, which has certified new members to assist in emergency management efforts. She also mentioned the transition into a less busy season, allowing for further training of the new recruits.

Warren County Engineer Bridal Carter provided an update on infrastructure, noting that the upper Flint bridge may open as early as Friday, contingent on weather conditions and contractor progress. He expressed hope that the opening would alleviate financial penalties for delays.
