Fire department honored for heroism during crises

During a recent government meeting, officials emphasized the critical role of the fire department in safeguarding the community. The gathering celebrated the department's leadership and acknowledged the tireless efforts of emergency service personnel who respond to various crises, including the ongoing challenges posed by the global pandemic, significant brushfires, and the aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

Former Chief Joe Ann Run was recognized for her contributions, highlighting the importance of quality leadership within the department. The meeting underscored the bravery of first responders, who are often the first to rush into danger, providing essential aid during emergencies such as Hurricane Helene.

The fire department currently comprises nearly 1,000 career members operating from 25 stations and support facilities, alongside 28 volunteer companies. This robust structure not only enhances the department's capacity to respond to emergencies but also fosters strong community ties, reinforcing the vital role first responders play in ensuring public safety and well-being.
