Grocery store alcohol license approved amid community concerns

In a recent government meeting, the board reviewed and approved a request for a Type 20 Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) license for a new grocery store proposed by Mr. Kushpal Singh at 3035 South Chestnut Avenue, Fresno. The license allows for the off-sale of beer and wine, and the approval was contingent on meeting specific criteria related to public convenience and necessity.

Ron Alexander from the County Administrative Office presented the application, highlighting that the issuance of the license would not create law enforcement issues, would provide a needed service to the community, and would positively impact the local economy. Currently, there are only two off-sale licenses in the relevant census tract, which allows for four. The proposed grocery store, measuring approximately 3,000 square feet, is set to operate from 5 AM to midnight, with alcohol sales permitted from 6 AM to midnight.

During the discussion, board members emphasized the importance of implementing \"no loitering\" signs at the property to maintain order and safety. Maria Spera, representing Mr. Singh, assured the board that these signs would be posted in accordance with ABC and Fresno County standards. She also noted Mr. Singh's successful track record in operating another store in Fresno without any ABC violations.

The board unanimously approved the application, marking a significant step forward for the grocery store project, which is expected to serve the local community effectively. The meeting then proceeded to the next agenda item concerning behavioral health.
