Duncanville students shine at international DECA competition

In a recent government meeting, the Duncanville Independent School District celebrated the achievements of its DECA chapter, which has gained international recognition for its students' performance in business competitions. Over 23,000 students and professionals participated in last year's DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, California, where Duncanville students excelled, with two members placing in the top 10 globally.

Dr. Michelle Williams, a key figure in the DECA program at Duncanville High School, highlighted the program's inclusivity, noting that it welcomes students from various academic backgrounds, not just those focused on business. She emphasized the importance of community support, particularly in fundraising efforts to cover the costs associated with attending competitions, which can be significant.

The meeting also acknowledged the contributions of local donors, including the Duncanville Education Foundation, which has supported initiatives like the Panther Pantry, aimed at assisting students in need. The board expressed gratitude for the community's involvement, which plays a crucial role in the success of educational programs.

Additionally, the meeting introduced Dr. Sue Ellen Washington as the new Director of State and Federal Programs. With 16 years of educational experience, Dr. Washington's background includes roles as a bilingual educator and intervention coordinator. Her appointment is expected to bring valuable expertise and leadership to the district.
