City plans vibrant art installation to enhance Lincoln Street tunnel

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the Lincoln Street tunnel project, which aims to enhance public safety and artistic appeal through a large light installation. The project, endorsed by 1 Columbia, seeks to create an art installation that spans from Washington Street to Taylor Street, connecting the tunnel to nearby Findlay Park and the Vista area.

The initiative is designed not only to beautify the tunnel but also to draw visitors between these two key locations, fostering a vibrant community experience. The project is slated for installation next fall, with plans to attract artists through a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) that has already garnered positive feedback.

Financially, the project is supported by a $150,000 grant received two years ago, with $135,000 allocated for the artist's compensation. City officials expressed confidence in the budget and the project's potential impact on the area.
