Community honors veterans with new reflective park dedication

In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the dedication of Veterans Point at Wells Cove, a project funded by a donation from the estate of a deceased client of local businessman Mike Foster. The initiative, which cost approximately $150,000, aims to provide a reflective space for veterans and honor their sacrifices, both in wartime and peacetime. The project was a collaborative effort involving various agencies, including the county's park service and public works.

During the meeting, Eric Johnson from VAMSA (Veterans Affairs and Mental Health Services Agency) was commended for his role in organizing the dedication event. Johnson also shared encouraging news regarding mental health initiatives for veterans, reporting that their efforts have potentially saved 18 lives over the past three years.

Additionally, the meeting addressed upcoming public hearings related to the Bay Crossing Study, scheduled for December 4, 9, and 11. The first session will be held virtually, while the final meeting will take place at Kent Island High School. Officials urged community members to participate and provide input as part of the ongoing environmental review process for the bridge project.

The meeting concluded with a light-hearted mention of the recent elections, with officials noting a lack of discussion on the topic, possibly due to a local incident involving a member of the council.
