Korean War veteran honored with American flag tribute

During a recent government meeting, the community gathered to honor Korean War veteran Earl Boettcher for his service. Mr. Boettcher, a resident of Sawyer County, served in the US Marine Corps from February 1952 to February 1954, where he played a crucial role in ensuring safe drinking water for over 12,000 Marines during their training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

The meeting featured a presentation of an American flag that had been flown over the Wisconsin State Capitol in Mr. Boettcher's honor, a gesture facilitated by State Senator Romaine Robert Quinn. The flag was presented to Mr. Boettcher, who expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, \"I shouldn't expect anything like this, but I thank all of you.\"

In addition to honoring Mr. Boettcher, the meeting also recognized Gary Elliott and Nicole Copparo from the Surry County Veterans Service Office for their dedication to helping veterans. A flag was similarly flown in their honor, highlighting the community's appreciation for their commitment.
