Community honors first responders with heartfelt tribute project

During a recent government meeting, significant acknowledgments were made regarding local community leaders and initiatives aimed at enhancing public service. Commissioner Terry highlighted the contributions of Jerry Masse, a respected figure in his township, and recognized Suzanne Renton, who concluded her 23-year tenure as clerk for Orinoco Township. A reception was held in her honor, where well wishes were extended from the county.

The meeting also addressed ongoing efforts in Brownfield redevelopment, particularly a $2.6 million grant aimed at cleaning up a site for Modern Plastic. The Brownfield authority is set to propose a new redevelopment plan for a Tractor Supply Company in Benton Township, which will undergo a public hearing process soon.

Additionally, Alan Barker, a local resident and former volunteer firefighter, presented a heartfelt project aimed at honoring first responders. Alongside his daughter, Lily, Barker has been working on a tribute involving commemorative coins that were carried by first responders during their service. This initiative, which reflects a deep appreciation for the dedication of emergency personnel, was inspired by Barker's own experiences in public service.

The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement and recognition of those who serve, setting a tone of gratitude and collaboration among local leaders and residents.
