City pushes for safer crosswalk despite denial from ACHD

Despite a previous denial of the request for a crosswalk, officials expressed their commitment to continue negotiations with ACHD to enhance pedestrian safety in the area. Council member Cavanagh emphasized the importance of creating a safer pedestrian environment, suggesting the possibility of a raised table to improve visibility and accessibility.

The mayor acknowledged the challenges in compelling ACHD to approve such improvements but reiterated the city's dedication to working through the building permit process and site design approvals to advocate for the crosswalk. The council's previous request for collaboration with ACHD was noted, highlighting a shared desire for pedestrian safety enhancements.

In addition to the crosswalk discussion, council members also reviewed the heights of proposed buildings in the area. The meeting included a detailed examination of the height specifications for the structures, with one building measuring 31 feet over three stories, while another reached an overall height of 55.6 feet. This information aligns with the previously adopted language regarding building approvals, which primarily focused on the number of stories rather than specific height measurements.
