Energy Costs Plummet as Schools Upgrade HVAC Systems

In a recent Suffolk County Schools board meeting, the district celebrated the achievement of its student athletes, specifically those who secured back-to-back state championships. Board members expressed gratitude for the support from family members and the community, emphasizing the positive representation of the schools.

The meeting also featured an energy report presented by Mr. Jonathan Hodges, focusing on the third quarter of 2024, which encompasses July, August, and September. Hodges highlighted a significant reduction in energy expenditures, reporting a decrease of over $28,000 compared to the same period in 2023, despite consistent average temperatures.

The report showcased the district's commitment to energy efficiency, particularly through the replacement of outdated HVAC systems. Notably, 38 units were replaced at Lake Intermediate and 55 at Lakeland Carmel, contributing to improved energy performance across the schools. Hodges noted that these upgrades have already shown positive results, with several schools demonstrating marked reductions in energy consumption.
