Gunstock unveils major upgrades for ski season excitement

In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted significant advancements and projects completed at Gunstock Mountain Resort over the past year, showcasing a commitment to enhancing infrastructure and visitor experience. Key developments included the completion of a state-of-the-art support equipment maintenance facility, upgrades to the main lodge, and improvements to employee areas and campground infrastructure.

The resort is on track to become debt-free by fiscal year 2028, with only one outstanding bond of $525,000 remaining after fiscal year 2025. This financial stability has allowed for a self-funded capital expenditure budget of approximately $5 million for the current year, aimed at further enhancing the resort's offerings.

Among the most notable projects are the Hot Shot and Upper Ramrod ski runs, which have undergone extensive renovations to include snowmaking capabilities and grooming, transforming them into fully operational trails for skiers. These upgrades respond to community feedback for more challenging runs, with one designated as a Black Diamond and the other as an intermediate blue run.

Additionally, the Derringer Veil Trail has been widened to accommodate increased traffic, improving safety and accessibility. A new building at the campground and Nordic Center is set to streamline operations and enhance visitor services, particularly during peak camping seasons.

Gunstock has also seen a rise in non-ski season revenue through weddings and corporate events, bolstered by recent upgrades to facilities, including air conditioning in the main lodge. The resort's financial health is reflected in a cash reserve of nearly $10 million, providing a buffer for ongoing operational costs and future capital projects.

As Gunstock continues to innovate and expand its offerings, officials are optimistic about the future, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balance between enhancing visitor experiences and ensuring staff well-being. The resort is poised for continued growth, with plans for more events and activities to attract visitors year-round.
