Laconia Schools Launch Exciting New Enrichment Programs

During a recent government meeting, the Laconia School District highlighted significant advancements in its extended learning programs, particularly at Laconia Middle School and Laconia High School. The meeting featured presentations from various educators, including Carrie Howe, the Director of Extended Learning, and Norm Gilbert, the site coordinator for the REAL initiative program.

Gilbert reported a remarkable increase in student participation in summer programs, noting that enrollment rose from just 12 students in 2022 to 66 this past summer, with expectations to reach nearly 100 students for the upcoming fall session. The summer activities included an Olympic Games simulation, kite and boat building, cooking classes focused on healthy lifestyles, and a trip to the Boston Museum of Science as part of the STEM initiative.

The meeting also introduced new fall offerings, which include STEM and robotics, a drama club, and an outdoor environment club. Additionally, the GEAR UP New Hampshire program has returned to support 7th and 8th graders, with a kickoff celebration recently held at the middle school.

These developments reflect a concerted effort by the Laconia School District to enhance educational opportunities beyond traditional classroom settings, aiming to engage students in diverse and enriching experiences.
