Students Thrive in Olympic-Themed Summer Learning Lab

During a recent government meeting, educators from Laconia High School highlighted the success of their summer Learning Lab program, which centered around the theme of the 2024 Olympics. The program aimed to integrate academic skills with global events, fostering community engagement among students.

Participants in the Learning Lab created innovative Olympic-themed games designed to be inclusive, with some of these activities set to be featured in upcoming homecoming events. Notably, a wiffle ball game incorporating plastic fish was among the unique creations developed by the students.

Jessica Marcoux, a teacher at Laconia High School, emphasized the program's focus on community building and student involvement. The initiative not only allowed students to engage with their peers but also prepared them to host events for middle school students, enhancing their leadership skills.

The meeting also showcased the achievements of individual students, including Ava, who overcame academic challenges to complete her credits during summer school. Her perseverance was celebrated in a special presentation, underscoring the program's supportive environment.

Looking ahead, the school is set to offer a variety of extracurricular activities for the fall, with an expected participation of nearly 200 students. Clubs such as cribbage and trivia have already garnered interest, with community events like a cribbage tournament fostering connections between students and local residents.
