School leaders vow to protect immigrant students and families

During a recent government meeting, key discussions centered around upcoming events, educational initiatives, and community support for families, particularly in light of current socio-political challenges.

The meeting highlighted the decision to relocate the next candidate review committee meeting to Sacramento, moving away from San Francisco due to high costs. This committee will focus on evaluating candidates for various CSBA offices, including president and vice president, with the majority of meetings conducted via Zoom.

In community engagement, a festive event is scheduled for December 18 at the Adams School, coinciding with the night before the reorganization meeting. The meeting also acknowledged the efforts of South Bay volunteers who have been actively upgrading the Student Learning Assessment (SLA) over the past five Saturdays.

A significant portion of the discussion addressed the emotional well-being of students and families amid rising fears related to immigration rhetoric. Board members expressed their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all students, particularly those from immigrant backgrounds. Plans are in place to collaborate with organizations like NALEO to provide resources and workshops for parents, educating them about their rights and how to protect their children.

The meeting concluded with a call for a report on the wellness center's progress, emphasizing the importance of mental health support in schools. Board members extended their best wishes for a restful Thanksgiving break, encouraging staff and families to take time to recharge.
