Budget boost fuels major upgrades in security and services

In a recent government meeting, officials outlined a significant increase in the maintenance budget for the upcoming year, rising from $8.6 million to $9.3 million, marking an increase of approximately $250,000. Key contributors to this budget growth include several technology and service providers that have become integral to the operations of various departments.

CyberForce Q, the security partner introduced earlier this year, is expected to contribute $50,000. The popular video editing software Canva, which has seen widespread adoption across departments for creating social media content, will account for $81,000 of the budget. Additionally, the LiDAR system, utilized for customer relationship management, will contribute $40,000, while the Tadpole learning tool for early education will add $55,000.

Another notable expense is the security system known as Security Scorecard, which helps assess the security quality of both new and existing vendors. This system has proven beneficial over the past year and contributes approximately $54,000 to the budget.

The meeting also addressed an increase in contract services, proposing a rise from $845,000 to $945,000. This increase is primarily driven by the need for specialized services that cannot be fulfilled through direct hiring. Officials noted that the output of IT projects has doubled since 2020, underscoring the growing demand for these services.

Overall, the discussions highlighted a strategic investment in technology and security to enhance operational efficiency and safety within government departments.
