Health Department Leader Honored Amid Complex TB Battle

A recent government meeting highlighted key updates from various departments, emphasizing public health achievements and operational changes within the 911 board.

The meeting, which was open to the public and streamed online, began with a review of the Executive Committee minutes, followed by a report from the Board of Health. Board member Miss White praised Kathy Ferguson Allen, the administrator of the Lee County Health Department, for her recent induction into the Illinois State University College of Applied Science and Technology Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes her significant contributions to public health, particularly as she mentors new public health residents statewide.

Additionally, Miss White reported on the department's successful management of a complex tuberculosis case, receiving commendation from the Illinois Department of Public Health for their efforts to mitigate risks associated with the situation.

The 911 board, represented by Mister Hudson, discussed the upcoming fiscal year 2024-25 budget, which is set for approval at the next meeting on November 25. He also announced the retirement of Telecommunicator Laura Anlow and the resignation of another telecommunicator, both effective December 1. The board is actively training a new telecommunicator and is in the process of hiring additional staff to ensure continued operational efficiency.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 25, 2024, at the Lee County 911 Center, where further discussions and approvals are anticipated.
