Syracuse leaders tackle urgent lead water service updates

During a recent Syracuse City Council meeting, councilman Amir Gathers, chair of the Department of Public Works (DPW), led a discussion focused on the city's lead water services. The meeting featured a presentation from the water department, aimed at updating the community on proactive measures taken to address lead in water lines.

Gathers emphasized the importance of community engagement, inviting residents to ask questions following the presentation. He set clear guidelines for the question-and-answer session, allowing each participant two minutes to voice their concerns while urging respect and decorum among attendees. Gathers also mentioned that individuals wishing to ask questions needed to fill out a card to ensure everyone had a chance to be heard.

Corey Driscoll Donham, the Chief Operating Officer for Syracuse, and Robert Brandt, the water department commissioner, were present to provide insights and respond to community inquiries. The meeting also included the participation of Jeff Till from the county health department, highlighting a collaborative approach to addressing water safety concerns.
