Commissioners oppose controversial transmission line project

During a recent government meeting, key discussions centered on upcoming elections, resolutions, and local project opposition. The meeting highlighted the upcoming election of officers for the Maryland Republican Party, with members Scott Hollenbeck and Rich Collins competing for the position of 3rd vice chair.

A significant resolution in support of Israel was announced, alongside another advocating for maintaining nine justices on the Supreme Court. The meeting also addressed election integrity, noting that Carroll County certified its election on November 15, with state certification scheduled for December 5, coinciding with the next meeting.

Commissioner Rothstein emphasized the importance of mental health awareness during the holiday season, prompting a request for a public safety joint statement with the sheriff's office to encourage sober driving.

Additionally, the board discussed a resolution opposing the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP), a proposed 500,000-volt transmission line that would traverse Baltimore, Carroll, and Frederick Counties. The resolution articulates concerns regarding the project's potential negative impacts on the environment, local businesses, and historical sites, as well as its connection to the energy demands of proposed data centers in Northern Virginia. The board's opposition reflects a commitment to protecting local heritage and resources.
