Planning Commission Approves Controversial Home Rebuild Plan

In a recent meeting of the Planning and Architecture Review Commission, members discussed two significant agenda items: the approval of a residential addition at 7120 North Longview Avenue and the conditional use site plan for a self-storage facility at 2345 West Mill Road.

The commission unanimously approved the site and architectural plans for the residential project, which involves the complete demolition and reconstruction of an addition to the existing home. The discussion highlighted the commission's cautious approach, as the structure does not face the street and is not visible to neighbors. The second item on the agenda involved a self-storage facility that is set to undergo changes. Staff presented the application, noting that the project meets all 11 conditions required for conditional use approval. A public hearing is scheduled for December 3 to finalize this approval. The commission raised concerns regarding the facility's lighting and signage, specifically the need for an updated photometric plan to ensure compliance with city standards and the placement of a monument sign at least 10 feet from the property line.

Commissioner Sullygood also raised questions about security measures at the self-storage site, particularly due to its proximity to a middle school. The representatives from the storage company were invited to address these concerns, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety for the surrounding community.
