Residents Rally Against Controversial Cochise County Development Plan

Residents of Cochise County voiced strong opposition to a proposed rezoning application (RZ 2419) by Bramhall Investments during a recent government meeting. Concerns were raised about the potential impact of the development, which plans to place up to 70 mobile homes on a 15-acre site adjacent to Bay Acres.

One local resident highlighted a troubling history of similar developments in the area, recounting how past promises of infrastructure improvements, such as underground utilities and community amenities, were not fulfilled. The speaker described how inadequate planning led to flooding issues and environmental degradation, ultimately resulting in the decline of the Bay Acres community.

Another speaker, Trisha Giordette from Sierra Vista, emphasized the need for adequate water supply in light of Douglas recently becoming an Active Management Area (AMA). She pointed out that the proposed water source from the city of Douglas lacks a designation of assured water supply, raising questions about the viability of the development.

The meeting was briefly interrupted due to technical difficulties, but the concerns regarding water management and the potential for further environmental issues remained at the forefront of the discussion. Residents urged the commission to reconsider the approval of the rezoning application, citing the need for sustainable development practices that prioritize community well-being and environmental integrity.
