Community member exposes alleged misconduct in local sheriff's office

Robert Greenway, a resident of Southeast Academy, accused the district attorney of making false statements and failing to provide evidence regarding allegations of physical aggression against him. He expressed frustration over the lack of accountability and transparency from the DA's office, particularly regarding interactions with law enforcement.

Greenway recounted an incident involving a police officer who allegedly sought guidance from the DA's office about how to handle a situation involving Greenway. He criticized the DA's office for providing unclear and seemingly nonsensical advice, which he felt undermined the professionalism expected from such an office. He plans to file a citizen's complaint with the Salem Citizens Board to seek further clarification and accountability.

Another resident, Wendy Fast, shared her experiences with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, specifically criticizing Sheriff Mark Garton and his leadership team. Fast described a perceived lack of integrity and professionalism within the department, which she believes has negatively impacted her family following a traumatic incident involving her daughter. She expressed concern that the culture within the sheriff's office discourages officers from speaking out against misconduct due to fear of retaliation.

Both speakers highlighted a growing dissatisfaction among community members regarding the accountability of local law enforcement and the need for reform within the district attorney's office and sheriff's department. Their testimonies reflect broader concerns about trust in public institutions and the impact of law enforcement practices on families and individuals in the community.
