Revitalizing Main Street with bold new community plans

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed revitalization efforts for Main Street, focusing on enhancing outdoor event spaces and improving community infrastructure. Four potential locations for outdoor events were identified, including a church parking lot, the Flagstar sidewalk space, and a large lot across from the church, which could host music fairs, car shows, and holiday events.

Short-term recommendations included addressing 24 empty tree pits, installing trash receptacles, and enhancing speed limit enforcement, which has seen minimal action in the past. Officials noted the need for welcome signs at key intersections and highlighted the dangers posed by raised utility covers.

Long-term strategies proposed included redesigning crosswalks for better visibility, creating designated parking spots for customers, and considering a commercial zoning overlay to facilitate the conversion of older residential properties into retail spaces. The relocation of the post office was also suggested, with the aim of transforming its current site into a community center, thereby freeing up nearby public parking.

To stimulate economic growth, the committee recommended offering cash incentives to attract targeted businesses and exploring redevelopment opportunities for key properties, including the Malizewski Funeral Home.
