City rejects all bids for towing services amid controversy

During a recent city council meeting in Broken Arrow, officials unanimously approved the rejection of all bids for the record service contract, citing that the submissions were not in the city's best interest. The decision follows a review process that revealed discrepancies in the bid packages, particularly concerning invalid notary seals from two of the three bidders.

City Manager Kenny Schwab and Maintenance Services Director Ryan Bays explained that the city had initially sought bids in June but decided to reject them after discovering that the notary seals for the bids submitted by Morgan's Towing and Story Wrecker were invalid. This led to concerns about the integrity of the bidding process, prompting the council to seek a new round of bids with improved procedures.

Tara Bashaw, representing Story Wrecker, expressed frustration during the meeting, highlighting that her company has been providing services to the police department for over 20 years and has been left in limbo due to the bidding delays. She raised concerns about the financial burden of continuing to provide services without a formal contract and requested clarity on her standing with the city.

In response, city officials emphasized that the decision to reject the bids was made to ensure a fair and transparent process. They reassured Bashaw that her company could still submit a bid in the upcoming round, provided the notary issues are resolved.

The council plans to reissue the bid request shortly, with an estimated timeline of eight weeks for the entire process, allowing for a thorough review of submissions to ensure compliance and quality service for the citizens of Broken Arrow.
