Youth Action Board Tackles Homelessness with New Initiative

In a recent government meeting, discussions centered on addressing youth homelessness through collaborative efforts with local organizations and the establishment of a Youth Action Board. The board, composed of young individuals who have experienced homelessness, aims to provide insights into the challenges faced by their peers.

The meeting highlighted the City of Oklahoma City's allocation of $3 million in HUD funding to nonprofits, including SISU Youth and Hope Community Services, to combat youth homelessness. Officials outlined a three-year demonstration program designed to test and refine a service model that begins with a targeted population at Pivot, a local organization. The first year will focus on this group, with plans to expand outreach in subsequent years to include other organizations and stakeholders, such as the Youth Action Board.

The conversation also touched on the need for engagement with the Youth Action Board to ensure their perspectives are integrated into the program's development. A proposal was made to facilitate a meeting between the board and a person-centered design expert to gather further insights.
