Town approves major funding for crucial infrastructure upgrades

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed critical funding commitments for local infrastructure projects, including a significant upgrade to the intersection of 144 and Smoky Road. The total local funds required for the project amount to $7,023,705,000, with a local match of $1,793,183 needed for the intersection improvement. The council unanimously approved the commitment letters necessary for the application process.

Additionally, the council reviewed and approved a contract with Stone Municipal Group, expressing satisfaction with their performance and contributions to ongoing projects.

In a separate discussion, the council addressed the need for updated vehicles for the reserves. Two aging Dodge Durangos, which have incurred substantial maintenance costs, are to be replaced with a single all-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 that comes fully outfitted with necessary equipment. The Tesla, with only 27,000 miles, will be acquired for $11,000 and $8,000 for the two Durangos, resulting in a more cost-effective solution for the department's vehicle needs.

The meeting also highlighted the professional development of staff, with one member currently pursuing AICP certification, which is expected to enhance planning capabilities within the department. Overall, the meeting underscored the council's commitment to improving local infrastructure and operational efficiency.
